Safety data sheet (SDS)
Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH), annex II
If you place a hazardous substance or mixture on the market, REACH requires a safety data sheet with 16 numbered sections, from identification to transport. This template already has that structure built in, so you only fill in each product's data.
This document is required by the regulation cited above.
What the template includes
- CLP classification: pictograms, signal word and H/P statements
- CAS, EC, index and REACH registration numbers
- Unique formula identifier (UFI)
- First aid, fire-fighting and accidental release measures
- Handling, storage and exposure controls
- ADR/IMDG/IATA transport and the full text of H-statements
Is this document mandatory?
This document is required by the regulation cited above.
Who is this template for?
For manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemical substances and mixtures.
What happens if you don't have it
Spanish law (Ley 8/2010) classifies selling a product with no safety data sheet as a very serious infringement (art. 5.2.e), fined from €85,001 to €1,200,000; not providing it at least in Spanish is a serious infringement (art. 5.3.b), fined €6,001 to €85,000. These are the highest figures in this whole series — missing an SDS is by far the most expensive document to go without.
